SIT to examine S-6 coach at Godhra
AHMEDABAD: Designated Pota court judge, Jyotsna Yagnik has granted permission to the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the S-6 coach in Godhra in which 59 passengers, mainly kar sevaks,were burnt alive on February 27, 2002, sparking off statewide communal riots. Interestingly, the Godhra carnage probe is to be conducted by deputy superintendent of police Noel Parmar, who was also heading the investigation by the Gujarat government appointed SIT. (TOI)

IIM-Ahmedabad likely to finalise OBC quota issue
Ahmedabad: The Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) will meet on Saturday to finalise the implementation of 27 per cent reservation for OBC students, sources said on Tuesday. The meeting will also discuss other pending issues, sources in IIM-A said, adding that the faculty council of the business school will also meet tomorrow to discuss the issues. The institute is in the process of finalising the quota implementation from this year following the go-ahead given by the Supreme Court. The Union Human Resources Development Ministry has also directed all the Centrally-funded educational institutes, including IITs and IIMs, to implement the OBC reservation from this year sans the creamy layer. Development of Tuna Port crucial
Bhuj: The Centre's recent guidelines, which banned any investment from the Kandla Port Trust in a private-public partnership (PPP) for the development of a news port, has not gone down well with some of the port trustees. They feel the new guidelines should be applicable for general projects and not for the one that envisages development of the Tuna Port. For, they say, a new port is necessary for the survival of the Kandla Port, which is facing stiff competition from the newly-developed Mundra Port of Adanis Group. (Express)

A living demi-god in Kukasvada
KUKASVADA (JUNAGADH): Late Dhirubhai Ambani is held in high esteem in his birthplace on the Saurashtra coast. But it is a living legend who is worshipped here. Bhikhabhai Bhadraka and Dhirubhai grew up together in Kukasvada. Bhadraka was ten years older and remembers Dhirubhai as a "hard working man". In 1990, when Dhirubhai was already a phenomenon in the business world, Kukasvada's villagers collected Rs 25 lakh from the Koli community and built a temple in honour of Bhikha Bapa. His idol towers over two other Hindu deities. (TOI)

Guj businessmen plan 5-star, old-age home
New Delhi: Zydus, Adani and Torrent donate for the project coming up on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. Leading industrialists of Gujarat have joined hands to construct a state-of-the-art old-age home near Ahmedabad. Pankaj Patel, chairman, Zydus Healthcare, Sudhir Mehta of the Torrent group and Gautam Adani, chairman, Adani group, among others, have got together for the project, which will come up on the outskirts of the city. Patel has already donated 38,000 square yards of land near Sanskardham in Ghuma, about two kilometers from Ahmedabad. “It will be a world-class project,” said Girish Dani, a Ficci member, who is closely involved with the venture. “The 200-room old-age home will have four-bed as well as two-bed rooms. It will have all the facilities including a medical centre, a multi-functional hall, activity room and a temple,” said Apurva Amin, the architect designing the project.

Power fuels reverse migration
Ahmedabad: While states across the country grapple with the problem of getting power to the rural areas, Gujarat stands tall as an exception. The state government’s Jyoti Gram Yojana (JGY) has not only ensured 100 per cent village electrification but also 24 X 7 power supply. The result is a resurrection of rural industries in the state and reverse migration to rural areas. At an expenditure of over Rs 1,000 crore, the programme has successfully covered the 18,065 inhabited villages and 9,681 hamlet-suburbs in the villages in Gujarat. As against the common practice of catering to power supply for agriculture and households from a common feeder, the scheme sought to provide power from separate feeders. About 12,621 new transformer centres and 56,599 km of new lines were laid down. Implemented in a record time of 30 months, the project involved installation of specially designed transformers (SDTs) to provide round-the-clock electricity supply for domestic use to farmers living in farm houses.

સૂર્યનારાયણ કોપાયમાનઃ મહત્તમ તાપમાનનો પારો ૪૧ ડિગ્રી
સુરત: શહેરીજનો ઉપર આજે સવારથી જાણે ભગવાન સૂર્યનારાયણ કોપાયમાન થયા હોય તે રીતે સવારથી જ અગનગોળા વરસાવવાનું શરૃ કરતાં શહેરીજનો ત્રાહિમામ્ પોકારી ઊઠયા હતા. સવારે દસ વાગ્યાથી મોડી સાંજ સુધી શહેરમાં ગરમ લૂ ફૂંકાતી રહી હતી અને ગરમીનો પારો આ સીઝનમાં પ્રથમ વખત ૪૧ ડિગ્રી પર પહોંચ્યો છે. હવામાન વિભાગ પાસેથી પ્રાપ્ત થતી વિગતો અનુસાર, બે-ત્રણ દિવસ પહેલાં શહેરના હવામાનમાં બદલાવ આવવા સાથે પવનની દિશા બદલાતાં મહત્તમ તાપમાનમાં ઘટાડો થયો હતો અને શહેરીજનોએ પણ ગરમીમાંથી મહદ અંશે રાહત મેળવી હતી. પરંતુ ફરી વખત રાબેતા મુજબનો પવન થઈ જતાં ગરમીના પ્રકોપમાં ત્રણ દિવસથી ક્રમશઃ વધારો થયો છે. સતત બે દિવસ સુધી મહત્તમ તાપમાનનો પારો ૩૮ ડિગ્રીથી વધારે રહ્યા બાદ આજે એકાએક તેમાં વધારો થયો છે અને મહત્તમ તાપમાનનો પારો ૪૧ ડિગ્રી ઉપર સ્થિર થયો છે. જે સામાન્ય કરતાં ત્રણ ડિગ્રી વધારે છે. આજે સવારથી શહેરમાં જે પ્રકારે શહેરીજનોએ કાળઝાળ ગરમીનો અનુભવ કર્યો છે તેનાથી લોકો ત્રાહિમામ્ પોકારી ઊઠયા છે અને સવારે દસ વાગ્યાથી લોકોને આજની ગરમીનો અનુભવ થઈ ગયો હતો. બપોરના સમયે ઘરની બહાર નીકળનારા લોકોને રીતસર ચામડીની બળતરા થતી હતી તેમજ પાણીની તરસથી ગળું સુકાઈ જવાની પણ અનુભૂતિ થતી હતી. બપોરના સમયે શહેરના માર્ગો ઉપર લોકોની અવર-જવરમાં નોંધપાત્ર ઘટાડો થયેલો જોવા મળતો હતો. આજે સવારથી શહેરમાં લૂ ફૂંકાવાની શરૃઆત થઈ હતી અને તેની અસર મોડી સાંજ સુધી અનુભવાઈ હતી.

ધો.૧૦ની ગુજરાતી(દ્વિતિય ભાષા)ની ૧૨,૦૦૦ ઉત્તરવહીઓની ચકાસણી હજી બાકી
વડોદરા: ધો. ૧૦ના પરિણામ તૈયાર કરવાની ચાલી રહેલી કાર્યવાહી વચ્ચે ધો.૧૦ની ગુજરાતી(દ્વિતિય ભાષા)વિષયની ૧૨,૦૦૦ ઉત્તરવહીઓ તપાસવાની કામગીરી હજી બાકી હોવાની વિગતો સપાટી પર આવી છે.અન્ય તમામ ઉત્તરવહીઓ તપાસાઈ ગઈ છે ત્યારે આ ઉત્તરવહીઓ નહીં તપાસાઈ હોવાના કારણે બોર્ડ દ્વારા ઉત્તરવહીની ચકાસણી માટે વડોદરા અને અમદાવાદમાં ૪૦-૪૦ એમ કુલ ૮૦ શિક્ષકોની નિમણૂંક કરવામાં આવી છે. મળતી વિગતો અનુસાર ધો. ૧૦માં બોર્ડ સત્તાધીશોએ ૩૯ લાખ જેટલી ઉત્તરવહીઓ તપાસવા માટે હજારો શિક્ષકોને કામગીરી સોંપી હતી.આ પૈકીની લગભગ તમામ ઉત્તરવહીઓ તપાસાઈ ગઈ છે પણ ગુજરાતી માધ્યમ સિવાય અન્ય માધ્યમમાં દ્વિતિય ભાષા તરીકે જે વિદ્યાર્થીઓએ ગુજરાતી વિષયની પરીક્ષા આપી હતી તેની હજારો ઉત્તરવહીઓ તપાસવાની બાકી હોવાનું જાણવા મળ્યુ છે.બોર્ડના સૂત્રોએ કહ્યું હતું કે ગુજરાતી(દ્વિતિય ભાષા)ની કુલ મળીને ૩૫,૦૦૦ ઉત્તરવહીઓ હતી.પરંતુ ઉત્તરવહી તપાસવા માટે જેટલા શિક્ષકોને ઓર્ડર કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા તેમાંથી સંખ્યાબંધ શિક્ષકો ગેરહાજર રહ્યા હોવાથી નિયત સમયમાં કામગીરી પૂરી થઈ શકી ન હતી અને ૧૨,૦૦૦ ઉત્તરવહીઓ તપાસવાની બાકી રહી હતી.હાજર રહેલા અન્ય શિક્ષકો પર ઉત્તરવહીઓ તપાસવા માટેનો વધારોનો બોજો નહી નાંખવા માંગતા બોર્ડ સત્તાધીશોએ આ ૧૨,૦૦૦ ઉત્તરવહીઓ તપાસવા માટે શિક્ષકોને ફરી હુકમો કર્યા છે.
